New York, N.Y. Fusion Energy Foundation, 1983. Preprint Presumed first edition, first printing thus. Wraps. [2], 13, [1] pages. Oversized item, measuring 10-1/2 inches by 8-1/4 inches. Some discoloration to front cover. Erasure residue on front cover. Most pages printed in a two column format. This essay is devoted to the subject of the context for defining requirements for medical and related civil defense under both probable conditions of risk of nuclear and other warfare during an interval of perhaps five to seven years ahead, and also a capacity for dealing with catastrophes of other forms for which a similar kind of emergency capability is required. Fusion Energy Foundation (FEF) was an American non-profit think tank co-founded by Lyndon LaRouche in 1974 in New York. It promoted the construction of nuclear power plants, research into fusion power and beam weapons and other causes. The FEF was called fusion's greatest private supporter. It was praised by scientists like John Clarke, who said that the fusion community owed it a "debt of gratitude". By 1980, its main publication, Fusion, claimed 80,000 subscribers. The FEF included notable scientists and others on its boards, along with LaRouche movement insiders in management positions. It published a popular magazine, Fusion, and a more technical journal as well as books and pamphlets. It conducted seminars and its members testified at legislative hearings. It was known for soliciting subscriptions to their magazines in U.S. airports, where its confrontational methods resulted in conflicts with celebrities and the general public. The FEF has been described by many writers[who?] as a "front" for the U.S. Labor Party and the LaRouche movement. By the mid-1980s, the FEF was being accused of fraudulent fundraising on behalf of other LaRouche entities. Federal prosecutors forced it into bankruptcy in 1986 to collect contempt of court fines, a decision that was later overturned when a federal bankruptcy court found that the government had acted "in bad faith".[1] Key personnel were convicted in 1988. For Further Reading. Introduction by Frank R. Barnett. Erasure residue on half-title page. Cover has some wear and soiling. Frank R. Barnett was the founder of the National Strategy Information Center. Mr. Barnett's interest in national security studies grew from a belief that questions of war and peace should not be the left to Federal officials and the military alone. He worked to develop educational programs in conjunction with the American Bar Association, universities, organized labor and business. He founded the center in 1962. Its goal was to bring together leaders of public opinion and provide information on national defense and international security. Known for its anti-Communist and pro-military stance, the center continued to monitor the military equations after the demise of the Soviet Bloc. It also conducted research on American intelligence policy and sponsored unclassified workshops with intelligence specialists. More

In 2006 Leaming turned from the film world to the world of politics and history with her biography Jack Kennedy: The Education of a Statesman. Christopher Hitchens declared in The Atlantic Monthly: "The great merit of Barbara Leaming's new book is to demonstrate how dependent the young Kennedy became upon a charmed circle of British noblemen, and also how obsessed he became with the need to match himself with that greatest of Anglo-American aristocrats, Winston Churchill." In the London Sunday Telegraph, Christopher Silvester wrote of Leaming's JFK book, "No previous biographer has focused so sharply on Kennedy's attempts to apply Churchillian thought during his years in the White House.
