Mobilization is the assembling and organizing of troops, materiel, and equipment for active military service in time of war or other national emergency; it is the basic factor on which depends the successful prosecution of any war. The purpose of this study is to provide staff officers, students at Army schools and other interested persons with usable and detailed information on the procedures of past mobilizations and the lessons learned. The footnotes will guide anyone who wishes to make a more complete study of individual phases of the subject matter. Its primary objective is to provide a more comprehensive record of military mobilizations in the United States for the use of General Staff officers and students in the Army school system than has been available before in a single work. It was hoped that this study would assist mobilization planners of the future. The material was also expected to assist the thoughtful civilian in understanding some of the basic problems of national security. More

The Small Wars Manual is a United States Marine Corps manual on tactics and strategies for engaging in certain types of military operations. The Marine Corps' role in small wars has a long and complex history. During the early years of the 20th century, the Corps was widely viewed as the nation's overseas police and initial response force. Moreover, the actual execution of these roles were a natural adjunct of the Corps' officially directed mission of sea-based power projection, in turn buttressed by its fundamental expeditionary operational character; i.e., the availability for "sudden and immediate call" More

This test field manual represents the state-of-knowledge, state-of-practice, and state-of doctrine for the U.S. Army toward the end of the Vietnam War. Equipment addressed reflect, at an unclassifed level, the current state-of-the-art in such technologies. S.T.A.N.O. represents Surveillance Target Acquisition and Night Observation. This is a real grouping of technology in our military. The type of equipment included in this grouping are night vision devices, Intrusion detection devices, man portable surveillance radar, laser aiming, ranging and detecting devices, certain specialized optical systems such as stabilized optical monoculars and binoculars. The concept of S.T.A.N.O. evolved from a high tech solution for maximizing intelligence gathering efficiency while minimizing human risk. The term S.T.A.N.O. was first coined by General Westmoreland which represented his perspective of a specialized grouping of technological innovations pertaining to the electronic battlefield. More
