Minneapolis, MN: Mill City Press, 2013. Presumed First Edition, First printing. Paperback. xx, 218, [2] pages. Illustrations. Maps. Illustrated covers. Inscribed by the author on the half-title page. This chronicles the RAAM 2012 in which four 70-year-old cyclists ride The Race Across America in 6 Days, 13 hours. The author was one of a team of four seasoned cyclists who took on the 3,000-mile Race Across America with a goal of setting a new record. Sponsored by United Healthcare and supported by an intrepid crew of 15, the racers endured scorching deserts, punishing winds, bone-jarring pavement, life-threatening traffic, 170,000 ft. of climbing and acute exhaustion on their epic journey. Not your typical grandfathers, these elite athletes averaged 19,04 mph from Oceanside, CA, to Annapolis, MD. They broke the existing 70+ record by 27 hours and the best the 60" record by 3 hours. More Than a Race gives an insider's view of the challenges of extreme physical and mental stress, the astonishing logistics required to move 19 people and 5 vehicles across the continent in 6-1/2 days, and the joys of the team's remarkable accomplishments. A more detailed guide to specific topics is provided by the subject index. An author index is also appended as an aid in locating specific items. More

The document is a polemic addressing the reductions in the U.S. Merchant Marine fleet. It states that "NMU members have devoted their skills--and over 3,000 sacrificed their lives in World War II--to keep American flag ships sailing in the service of our country. We seek today the attainment of a merchant fleet under the American flag capable of assuring our country the strength it needs and the position of leadership it deserves in a world at peace. More
