He directed the four-phase study on Defense Department reform, Beyond Goldwater-Nichols: USG and Defense Reform for a New Strategic Era, which released reports in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008. Cover has slight wear and soiling. Clark Murdock (born c. 1940s) is a senior adviser at Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington, D.C.-based foreign policy think tank. Murdock specializes in strategic planning, defense policy, and national security affairs. He also serves as the Director of the Project on Nuclear Issues, a collection of nuclear experts from government, academia, the national laboratories, the military, and the private sector. In 2000, Murdock taught military strategy, the national security process, and military innovation at the National War College. From 1995 to 2000, he was deputy director of the headquarters planning function for the United States Air Force. As deputy special assistant to the chief for long-range planning, he helped define a coherent strategic vision for the 2020 Air Force and institutionalize a new long-range planning process. As deputy director for strategic planning, he helped implement the new planning process and led the development of several new planning products. Before joining the Air Force, he headed the Policy Planning Staff in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. Murdock has served in many roles in the defense world, including as a senior policy adviser to House Armed Services Committee chairman Les Aspin, as an analyst and Africa issues manager in the CIA, and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Yorktown at Patriots Point, South Carolina and had taught at the U.S. Naval Academy. Dr. Clark Gilbert Reynolds, B.A., M.A., Ph.D. (December 11, 1939 – December 10, 2005) was an historian of naval warfare, with an interest in the development of U.S. naval aviation. He made contributions to the fields of world history, strategic history, and the history of maritime civilizations. Reynolds went on the Duke University, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1964. Reynolds began his career at the U.S. Naval Academy in 1964–1968. He then went to the University of Maine. From 1976 to 1978, he was Professor at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point New York. For most of the decade between 1978 and 1988, he was an independent scholar, working as the curator and historian at the Patriot's Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Charleston, South Carolina. In 1988, he was appointed professor of history and served as chairman of the History Department. In 1999, he was appointed Distinguished Professor and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2002. E. T. Wooldridge, Jr, the Curator for Aeronautics at the National Air and Space Museum was a consultant on this volume. He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and was a fighter pilot aboard several aircraft carriers, including the U.S.S. Independence and the U. S. S. Enterprise. More

A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as a Charleston city councilor, a state representative, and a U.S. Representative. He also worked in financial services before entering politics. Nikki Haley, who was then governor of South Carolina, appointed Scott to the U.S. Senate in 2013 to fill a vacancy. He retained his Senate seat after winning a special election in 2014, and was elected to a full term in 2016 and reelected in 2022. He became the first African-American senator to be elected from the Southern United States since the Reconstruction era. Scott was a candidate in the 2024 Republican Party presidential primaries, forming an exploratory committee on April 13, 2023. He filed Federal Election Commission paperwork to run for president on May 19, and formally declared his candidacy three days later. Scott suspended his campaign on November 12 of that year due to low poll numbers. Scott supports infrastructure development and public works for his district. He opposes restrictions on deepwater oil drilling. He proposed the opportunity zone designation in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. More
