The United States Strategic Bombing Survey was a written report created by a board of experts assembled to produce an impartial assessment of the effects of Anglo-American strategic bombing of Nazi Germany during the European theater of World War II. After publishing its report, the Survey members then turned their attention to the efforts against Imperial Japan during the Pacific War, including a separate section on the recent use of the atomic bombs. In total, the reports contained 208 volumes for Europe and another 108 for the Pacific, comprising thousands of pages. The reports called strategic bombing "decisive" More

Iran’s defense strategists recognize the growing importance of the maritime environment and are shaping its naval forces to secure Tehran’s interests accordingly. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN) emphasizes an asymmetric doctrine to ensure national security in the Persian Gulf against regional neighbors and foreign presence. The Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN), dubbed by the Supreme Leader as a strategic force, employs a more conventional doctrine and focuses on forward presence and naval diplomacy. Its mission areas include the Caspian Sea, the Gulf of Oman and out-of-area operations. Both navies have considerable equities and are well positioned to influence and leverage the Strait of Hormuz; a vital chokepoint for the flow of resources and international commerce. During. More

Washington, D.C. U. S. Government Printing Office, 1942. Presumed First Edition, First printing. Hardcover. x, [2], 587, [1] pages. Cover has slight wear and soiling. Includes Preface, Illustrations, Four folding maps. Index to Sources, Naval Operations, Wars with Barbary Powers, several black and white illustrations. Also contains index. Published under Direction of The Honorable Frank Knox, Secretary of the Navy. This is volume IV of a six volume set. This fourth volume of documentary source material related to the wars with the Barbary States early in the nineteenth century covers naval operations from April 1804 to September 6, 1804. Sufficient diplomatic correspondence is also included to indicate the political background and its close connection with the naval operations. Outstanding among the events dealt with herein are the series of vigorous attacks on Tripoli made by the squadron under the redoubtable Commodore Edward Preble. Preble had to depend largely upon the good will of the Neopolitan and British governments for the use of bases at Syracuse, Malta, and Gibraltar, and for other essential aid in the matter of supplies and equipment. The benefits of these experiences were largely responsible for the subsequent naval efficiency and success in the War of 1812, and became traditional. More
Washington DC: General Services Administration, National Archives and Records Service, 1972. Presumed First Edition, First printing. Wraps. 3, [1] pages, plus covers. Cover has some wear and soiling. The records reproduced in the microfilm publication are from Naval Records Collection of the Office of Naval Records and Library Record Group 45. In the single roll of this microfilm publication is reproduced the private journal of Lt. Charles Gauntt while aboard the U.S.S. Macedonian, September 1818-June 1821. Gauntt's journal is a record of the Macedonian's voyage from Boston, Mass. to the Pacific Coast of South America. The main purpose of this expedition was to give aid and protection to U.S. citizens and to their property. During the South American revolutions, American merchant and fishing vessels were plagued by impressment, blockades, and illegal confiscation of goods. It was hoped that the presence of an American warship would prevent further harassment of American ships and help smooth relations between the United States and the South American governments. The main purpose was not entirely fulfulled due to the Macedonian being damaged by a hurricane after having left Boston and needed to stop for repairs at the navy yard at Norfolk, Virginia. The archivist responsible for the preparation of this microfilm publication was Maida Loescher. More
