Heaton is a professor of history, military history, and sociology at the American Military University and has written extensively on military history and the Second World War. A veteran of both the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps, he earned graduate degrees at Temple University and the University of Strathclyde Glasgow, Scotland. His work has included close liaison with veterans organizations throughout the U. S. and Europe. Anne-Marie Lewis received her BA with honors and MA from American Military University in international relations and is also a professional photographer.
