He had at times a detachment of purpose which makes one feel that the man sought the Grail rather than a geographical point upon a map. Inscribed by author to Otto Orren Fisher and Josephine H. Fisher on fep. Inscription reads To O. O. and Josephine Fisher with regards of Wm. H. Hobbs, Ann Arbor, April 25th, 1939. Bookplate of Otto Orren Fisher and bookplate of Josephine H. Fisher, both inside front cover. Dr. Otto Orren (O. O.) Fisher was a 1909 Miami alumnus who went on to the John Hopkins University School of Medicine before settling in Detroit. He was industrial surgeon for the Hudson Motor Company and established one of the first modern industrial first aid units there. During his life, Fisher was world-renowned as a serious book, manuscript, and artifact collector. Upon his death in 1961, his collection of more than 80,000 rare volumes spanned across 25 different categories, including signatures of all U.S. Presidents up until that time, and covered three floors of his home. Over the years many of the items that he collected were donated, sold, and given away. More

Menlo Park, CA: Atta Co., 1991. Presumed First Edition, First printing thus. Ephemera. 34 pages plus envelope. Illustrations. Envelop has been opened with minor scuffing/tear. Sticker residue on back of envelop. Copyright is held by Jason Hommel, son of Dennis Hommel. Based upon a review posted on-line: While there are indeed 16 paper airplanes in the kit, there are only 4 designs, so you are in fact building the same planes 4 times. Very little background is given on Leonardo, and most of that is on the envelope that holds the sheets of paper. Of the 34 pages in this, 32 pages are the sheets of paper for the paper airplanes. The other two pages are both sides of a single sheet and contains some assembly instructions (including for a mobile). The paper for the paper airplanes is top quality and the design of them really make them look like they could have been torn out of da Vinci's notebooks. The 4 designs are decent and fly very well, and the instructions are complete and very well done. More

New York: Celebration Committee, 1909. Presumed one of multiple originals struck. Medal with tri-color ribbon. The medal is shield shaped and has a maximum width near the top of approximately 1.5 inches. From the top of the hole to attached the ribbon to, to the bottom of the shield is approximately 1.75 inches. The ribbon is approximately 3.75 inches and is tri-colored with the red, white and blue quite faded. Frayed, intentionally, at one end One side has the images of Henry Hudson and Robert Fulton in full face and shoulders. The other side has images of the two ships. Text is presented in the title. The Hudson–Fulton Celebration of 1909 was linked to several reform movements sweeping New York City, in addition to Progressivism. These included the Conservation and Preservation movements, which led to the creation of the Historical Preservation Society. This organization worked to restore and establish landmarks and parks; these goals would be seen in the Celebration, in the many dedications of monuments which occurred over the course of the festivities. These monuments promoted the history of the city, and provided, like the Historical Parade, a visual history lesson for New Yorkers. Similar to the Progressives’ City Beautiful Movement, these memorials hoped to develop a unified civic identity for the diverse inhabitants of New York City. To express New York's civic identity and its emerging cultural preeminence, the Commission organized a Carnival Parade. Its floats displayed the music, art, and literature of the Old World, linking New York to London, Paris, and other European metropolises. This event was a night celebration which illuminated New York, creating an exciting and festive atmosphere. More
