Folded so that there are eight panels on this single sheet. Includes a Ready Reference Index that takes up about half of the upper right panel. It lists prominent institutions, railway stations, steamboats, buildings, monuments and statues and hotels. The United States Naval Observatory is in the upper left panel. The Zoological Park and Soldiers' Home Grounds are at the top boundary. The Navy Yard is in the lower right panel. Arlington National Cemetery is in the lower left panel. The boundaries between the four quadrants is in bold. Much of the map is captioned in terms of street names and numbers and places of significant interest. The Practical Guide was a booklet that included a fold-out map. The booklet is not present. This appears to have derived from the map in the booklet entitled the "Standard Guide" which was published in 1905. The B. S. Reynolds Company was a Washington, D. C. publishing company that specialized in postcards and lithographic guides. The company, formerly known as the Foster & Reynolds Company of 1202 D Street, NW, began putting out postcards in 1901 and became known for its views of the city’s monuments and buildings and of artworks in the city’s public buildings and museums. The company closed in 1948. More

Feather Schwartz Foster has been an independent writer of Presidential and First Ladies history for more than a decade, with a personal library of more than 1,500 president and president-related volumes collected over the last forty years. Her first book, LADIES: A Conjecture of Personalities was published in 2003, followed by Garfield’s Train, A Novel. Her latest book, The First Ladies: From Martha Washington to Mamie Eisenhower, An Intimate Portrait of the Women Who Shaped America, was published in 2011. She has made more than 300 personal appearances, including dozens of radio and television interviews. This includes lectures at the New Jersey State Historical Society, various city and state historical organizations, several Daughters of the American Revolution chapters and private groups. She has been a featured speaker multiple times at the Hennage Auditorium in Colonial Williamsburg. TONY (JAMES ANTHONY) FOSTER Born in Winnipeg August 3, 1932, Tony was a 14th generation Canadian, the eldest son of Major General Harry Wickwire Foster and Margaret (Margo) Ruth Muir Foster. He joined the merchant navy at fifteen working the Atlantic trade routes. He served in the US Army and fought in the Korean War. Tony's aviation career spanned more than half his life. He was a commercial airline captain, a bush pilot, an executive pilot, a crop duster and owner of a small aircraft business. He flew an array of aircraft around the globe. He authored fifteen books, including "Meeting of Generals" for which he won the Canadian Authors Association Award for best Non-Fiction in Canada in 1987, as well as the Evelyn Richardson Memorial Prize. He produced numerous network television scripts and mini-series. He acted in several movies and television productions. Tony fit several lifetimes of adventure into his 79 years. He was larger than life. More

Raphael Soyer (December 25, 1899 – November 4, 1987) was a Russian-born American painter, draftsman, and printmaker. Soyer was referred to as an American scene painter. He is identified as a Social Realist because of his interest in men and women viewed in contemporary settings which included the streets, subways, salons and artists' studios of New York City. He also wrote several books on his life and art. Among Soyer's portrait subjects were artists and writers who were his friends; these included Allen Ginsberg, Arshile Gorky, Chaim Gross, Gitel Steed and Edward Hopper. In 1967 the Whitney Museum of American Art exhibited a retrospective of his work. More
