This book provides a look at what a number of former Orioles have done after their playing careers ended. The author spoke with a wide-ranging number of Orioles. from stars like Cal Ripken Jr. and Brooks Robinson to those who had only 15 minutes of fame, like Dave Criscione and John Stefero. The author notes how many of the former Orioles stayed in baseball in some form, like Cal Ripken, who started his own minor league team in Aberdeen, Maryland, or former catcher Andy Etchebarren, a longtime empire's attendant. For many, their experience on the diamond became a launching point for their post-playing careers as coaches and managers; for others, their association with the Orioles simply blessed them as their careers took twists and turns away from the field of play. For all, the proud tradition of Orioles baseball has woven itself into the fabric of their everyday lives. The author interviewed 35 former Orioles players and one umpire attendant for this book.
