Biological and chemical weapons expert Eric Croddy Biological and chemical weapons expert Eric Croddy is a senior research associate at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. From a Publishers Weekly review: Mustard gas, sarin, hemorrhagic fever viruses, vomiting agents, biological toxins the weapons described in Chemical and Biological Warfare will make the reader's head spin, but author Eric Croddy, a Monterey Institute of International Studies research associate, is careful to avoid unnecessary alarmism in this primer on unconventional weapons. He describes the various existing chemical and biological weapons, how they work, and which countries own them, evaluating the threat that each kind of weapon poses and the likelihood of its use. For the most part, he argues, this weaponry is still prohibitively expensive. Whether he's right or not, this is a thorough, understandable crash course. More

Aberdeen Proving Ground: U. S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense, 1989. First Edition [stated], presumed first printing. Wraps. Format is approximately 8.25 inches by 11 inches. vii, [1], 27, [1] pages. Tables. Figures. Definitions. Ink notation on page v. The contents include: Preface, Contributors, Introduction, Overview of the Nerve Agent Pretreatment Decision Tree Network, Detailed Description, Rational for Animal Model Selection, and Definitions. This report addresses Decision Tree Networks for Anticonvulsant, Antivesicant, Cholinolytic, Pretreatment, and Reactivator. The objective of the Decision Tree Network development project was to provide a management concept and program strategy that would facilitate the rapid identification of the best candidate compounds. The Summary states: Pretreatments selected using this decision tree network may be used as adjuncts to or replacements for the benchmark pretreatment, pyridostigmine. Compounds that pass all of the tests in this network will be superior to the benchmark pretreatment. This does not imply necessarily that they will be more effecting in promoting survival; rather, the compounds may have higher safety margins, induce a more rapid recovery after agent challenge, or possess similar desirable attributes. The data to be obtained from this decision tree are sufficient to allow selection of pretreatment compounds worthy of further study in the predevelopment phase. More
