Mark Bisnow (born August 1952) has been a presidential campaign aide, author, and entrepreneur. In 2005 he founded a commercial real estate media and events company. In 1980 he was press secretary for presidential candidate John B. Anderson. He has written two books on American politics. Bisnow’s 1983 memoir of the Anderson campaign, Diary of a Dark Horse, was called by The New Republic “the best book to come out of the 1980 campaign, addressing in a more engaging and revealing manner than any other questions about the power of personality in politics, the decline of the parties, and the influence of the media. In the Shadow of the Dome, chronicled his experiences on Capitol Hill in the 1970’s and 80’s. Washington Monthly called it one of the top political books of the year. Mark Bisnow worked as a congressional aide for ten years in the service of six legislators. He draws on his experience to write a book describing every facet of the life of a Capitol Hill aide. The result is the ultimate insider's look at the side of Washington we never see. Derived from Library Journal: Tracing his political career from a student internship in the Sacramento legislature through stints with Senators Hubert Humphrey (D-Minn.) and John Heinz (R-Pa.), Representative John Anderson (R-Ill.), and Senator Robert Dole (R-Kan.), Bisnow provides an exuberant account of the inner workings of Congress. This self-described "political junkie" offers an unvarnished yet basically positive view of Washington politics. Bisnow's narrative moves from event to event. While obviously not meant to replace standard academic works about Congressional staff, this is an engaging story of politics which should be of particular interest to college students in American government courses.- Thomas J. Baldino, Juniata College. Condition: Very good / Very good.
