Frances Partridge's husband Ralph served throughout WWI, reaching major's rank and being decorated. By 1939 both were staunch pacifists. This is a different war story, with the author making astute observations, in diary form, of events in the the countryside, in the city, the reaction of those who opposed their views and those who did not, of becoming self-sufficent through the garden, and of the loss of friends and aquaintances in the war. Condition: good, good.
