The author enlisted in 1917 as a boy, and served in the Royal Fusiliers, Welsh Guards, and the Royal Sussex until World War II. Craving active service, he was seconded to the Royal West African Frontier Force (Nigeria Regiment), and while on active duty in West Africa volunteered for duty with Wingate's Chindits. The major portion of his book is an account of hisexperiences with 3rd West African Brigade of Chindits during the second Wingate expedition behind Japanese lines in Burma during 1944. British publications occasionally have off white paper, as does this book. Condition: good, good.
