In the seven years precedingthis symposium, there had been the successufl launching of hundreds of artifical satellites for a variety of scientific and practical purposes. Steps had been taken towards deeper penetration of space with the successful launching of such spacecraft as the Mariner Venus and Mars probes, and Ranger VII which obtained such fine close-up photographys of the Moon in July 1964. The symposium included papers dealing with the general problems of space mechanics and the guidance and navigation methods which enable sending spacecraft to the Moon. Condition: good, ex-lib.
