n.p. Fifth Division, 1919. 8.25" x 13.5", approx. 200, a collection of mimeographed copies and carbon copies bound together, some foxing to text, some wear and scuffing to boards. Some pencil notations and corrections to text. This is an extremely rare collection of documents assembled by Lt. Col. Herbert Parsons as material for a planned history of the G-2 Section of the 5th Division. Among the many documents in this collection are suggestions for the book history of the Fifth Division, a poem written by Lt. Col. Parson about the Fifth Division entitled "Red Diamond, " a memorandum of statistical data concerning operations of the Fifth Division, a report on patrolling issued September 1, 1918, a questionnaire for patrol leaders, Intelligence Memorandum No. 10 (September 1918) on prisoners and enemy documents in battle, a questionnaire for observers, two battle maps used in the battle of St. Mihiel and a questionnaire on the use of these maps, draft of the plan of intelligence to be annexed to the field order, a tentative list of maps to be distributed before an attack, a report on lessons learned from the battle of the St. Mihiel Salient, Administrative Memorandum No. 59 on the care of animals, copies of memoranda of commendation, confidential summary of intelligence from 16: 00 on November 7 to 16: 00 November 8, 1918, a copy of the form to be used for reporting on prisoner or captured material by regimental intelligence officer, Secret Field Order No. 66 on Dun-sur-Meuse, report of the part taken by the Fifth Division in operationsof the First Army from September 26 to November 11, 1918, along with a detailed epitome of events to accompany this special report of operations.
