The purpose of this pamphlet is to provide a summary of lessons learned about land clearing during recent operations in Vietnam and to provide additional up-to-date information about the techniques and equipment in use by commercial land clearing contractors that were applicable to theater of operations clearing missions. This pamphlet was intended to provide a consolidation of the latest information and guidance to personnel responsible for planning, utilizing, and supervising engineer units engages in land clearing operations. It was also intended to provide tactical commanders and their staffs planning guidance and date for coordinating support requirement and to apprise them of the capabilities and limitations of land clearing units and equipment. This pamphlet contains information on how to evaluate clearing requirements, determine the amount of effort required, select the most efficient means to clear the vegetation, and support and secure land clearing units. The necessity for sound prior planning is emphasized throughout because it is a major lesson to be learned from the operations conducted in Vietnam. Condition: good.
