This monograph, published by the Center for Cryptologic History, National Security Agency, provides an overview of the content of the messages involving the KGB in San Francisco and Mexico City and the GRU in New York and Washington. Among the topics discussed were the elaborate plans to free from prison Ramon Mercader (using the covername GNOME), who had murdered Trotsky in Mexico City in 1940, and the hunt for deserters from the Soviet merchant fleet in San Francisco.
