William A. M. Burden III, 1931-1962: In Memoriam

Stamford, CT: The Overbrook Press, 1962. First? Edition. First? Printing. 102, frontis illus., footnotes, chronology, eulogy, selected tributes. Very limited printing. Card of Mr. and Mrs. William A. M. Burden paperclipped to front endpaper, paperclip mark inside front board and to front endpaper and following page. Printed for the family and friends of William A. M. Burden III. Includes tributes by Arnold Wolfers and Tom Braden. Mr. Burden came from distinguished lineage; after earning an M.B.A. from Harvard, he served as a correspondent for the New York Times at the Presidential Nomination Convention in Chicago in 1952, and later worked as a reporter for The Washington Post and subsequently at the Johns Hopkins University Washington Center for Foreign Policy Research. He apparently committed suicide; Arnold Wolfers refers to "a sense of our own inadequacy, if not of guilt, for having failed to help him find another solution to his problem and for not having understood the character, depth and urgency of his problem. " Includes what appears to be an appreciation by Charles Marshall and two previously unpublished pieces by Burden. Condition: good.
