Original bound volumes such as this one are extremely scarce, especially when not institutional ex-library; this copy was once owned by J. Blascoer, whose name is at the bottom spine of the volume. There is an interesting article by Theodore Roosevelt, "Still-Hunting the Grizzly (pp. 220-230, including one full page illustration). Other articles in this volume by noteworthy authors include "The Bostonians" by Henry James; "A Few Words about Henry Clay" by George Bancroft; "William Lloyd Garrison" by Thomas Wentworth Higginson; "The Rise of Silas Lapham" by William Dean Howells; and "The Silent South" by George Washington Cable. Poetry by notable authors includes works by Edmund Gosse and Robert Underwood Johnson. There are a number of articles on Battles and Leaders of the Civil War, including articles on the Battle of Gaines's Mill by General D. H. Hill and by General Fitz John Porter, General Grant by General Adam Badeau, the Battle of Manassas by General John D. Imboden, the Peninsular Campaign by General George B. McClellan, and the Siege of Vicksburg by General Ulysses S. Grant. The volume also includes an open letter on international copyright by Oliver Wendell Holmes, and an interview with General Robert E. Lee by John Leyburn. Condition: fair to good.
