This is a fictionalized account of the 1918 Bolshevik defense of Tsaritsin (an old name for Stalingrad) against the German and White Russian attempt to take the city and open the road to Moscow. Aleksey Tolstoy (1883-1945) was a Russian and Soviet writer who wrote in many genres but specialized in science fiction and historical novels. Condition: fair to poor.
