Kenneth Patrick O'Donnell (March 4, 1924 – September 9, 1977) was an American political consultant and the special assistant and appointments secretary to President John F. Kennedy from 1961 until Kennedy's assassination in November 1963. O'Donnell was a close friend of President Kennedy and his younger brother Robert F. Kennedy, and was part of the group of Kennedy's close advisers dubbed the "Irish Mafia." O'Donnell also served as an aide to President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1963 to 1965. David Francis Powers (April 25, 1912 – March 27, 1998) was Special Assistant and assistant Appointments Secretary to President of the United States John F. Kennedy. Powers served as Museum Curator of the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum from 1964 until his retirement in May 1994. Powers was a military veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1945. O'Donnell and Powers were part of President Kennedy's inner circle; perhaps the only person closer to him than these two was his brother Robert. "Johnny, We Hardly Knew Ye": Memories of John Fitzgerald Kennedy is a 1972 memoir of John F. Kennedy, written by two of his closest friends and advisors, David Powers and Kenneth O'Donnell, in collaboration with journalist Joe McCarthy. The book was a best-seller and was later adapted into a television movie of the same title in 1977. As a politician, John F. Kennedy crafted an image that inspired and thrilled millions. Only a select inner circle was privy to the man behind Camelot. Kenneth P. O'Donnell and David F. Powers give an unflinching, honest, and intimate portrayal of the Kennedy family and JFK's presidency. As they recount Kennedy's journey from his charismatic first campaign for Congress to his rapid rise to national standing, culminating on a November day in Texas, O'Donnell and Powers reveal the inner workings of a leader still mourned today. Condition: Very good / good.
