Pamela Duncan Edwards is a British born children's author who now lives in the US. She has published over forty picture books for children, both in America and Britain. A barefoot slave escapes from a planation and tries to make his way to a stop on the underground railroad. Along the way, it seems that the animals of the forest are aiding his escape--leading him to water when he's thirsty, distracting his would-be captors when they get too close, and lighting his way when it is too dark for him to see. The illustrations were created using acrylic paints and colored pencils on watercolor paper. Innovative perspective and use of light and a spare text result in an unforgettable portrayal of one slave's journey to freedom. Condition: Very good.
