Baragwanath, Curator of Printes, The Museum of the City of New York. The Color Plates were reproduced from the Original Hand Colored Stone Prints by N. Currier and Currier & Ives. CUrrier began his print publishing in 1834. Ives joined him in 1854. They developed an assembly line type process through which black and white lithographs pulled from stone were hand colored. The selection of prints for this book was made with the following criteria in mind: Important events in the history of the country, the social life of the times, the economic life of the times, life in the city, life in the country, and the quality of the art as reproduced. Condition: Good in fair dust jacket. Price clipped. DJ has some wear, soiling, and large tear at front top spine.
