From the Roer to the Elbe with the 1st Medical Group: Medical Support of the Deliberate River Crossing

This paper relies heavily on primary source material. The author consulted with a number of veterans of the 1st Medical Regiment and the 1st Medical Group. The deliberate river-crossing operation is one of the most difficult tasks facing a ground combat commander. This paper examines the experience of the U.S. 1st Medical Group and the support it provided to the XIII Xorps in tis corssing of the Roer River in late February 1945 and the XVI Corps in its crossing of the Rhine River in March 1945.
