DJ has slight wear and soiling. Fannie Lillian Miles Bellamy was born in Drakes Branch, Virginia. She is a graduate of Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina. She has done work at George Washington University, the University of Virginia, Howard University and the University of Bordeaux and Toulouse. She retired from teaching after one year in Dillon County, South Carolina and twenty-nine years in Fairfax County, Virginia. She is a retired member of the Fairfax County Teacher's Association, the Virginia Teachers' Association, and the National Teachers' Association. She has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for more than twenty-five years. For a number of years she has been substituting at Luther Jackson and Kilmer Middle Schools and Oakton High School. Mrs. Bellamy is also the author of the nonfiction book Defaming Teddy. This is an informal biography about a young girl from rural Virginia who grew up under segregation and found astonishing and deep bonds with France and the French people. In her narrative one will find the nurturing of a strong family, the growth in a young girl’s heart for learning, later broad to fruition in advance studies; and her still ongoing attempt to absorb life in its joys and complexities and to give back, always give back, to her students and her community. Read this journey from Virginia’s dusty yards and frame house, to the halls of some of the finer institutes of higher learning, and catch the exhilaration of one heart growing in her family, friends, and colleagues.
