No Dream Is Too High; Life Lessons From a Man Who Walked on the Moon

Washington DC: National Geographic, 2016. Presumed First Edition, First printing. Hardcover. 223, [1] pages. Illustrations. Buzz Aldrin (born Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr.; January 20, 1930) is an American engineer, former astronaut, and Command Pilot in the United States Air Force. As Lunar Module Pilot on the Apollo 11 mission, he and mission commander Neil Armstrong were the first two humans to land on the Moon. Aldrin set foot on the Moon at 03:15:16 on July 21, 1969 (UTC), 9 minutes after Armstrong first touched the surface. One of his first missions was on Gemini 12 where he successfully proved that extravehicular activity (EVA) could be performed by astronauts, spending over 5 hours outside the craft, thus achieving the goals of the Gemini program and paving the way for the Apollo program. Derived from a Kirkus review: The astronaut recounts life lessons learned from his historic Apollo 11 moonwalk in 1969 and beyond. In this hybrid of memoir and motivational self-help guide, Aldrin treads on familiar ground touched on in other accounts of the moon mission, such as First on the Moon, co-authored with fellow astronauts Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins, and Aldrin’s own previous memoirs, also relating to the Apollo 11 mission and his later struggles with alcoholism and depression. Aldrin attempts to shed light on some of the lessons he learned along the way. The author focuses each chapter on an inspirational message. In “Second Comes Right After First,” Aldrin initially tells of how he came to embrace being the second man to step foot on the moon, following Armstrong. The author has remained a dedicated and forceful advocate for the United States to continue planetary exploration, generously participating in fundraisers and providing educational support whenever needed. Aiming to inspire readers of all ages, this will likely most appeal to devoted fans of Aldrin. Condition: Very good / Very good.
