The annual Islamic pilgrimage (the Hajj) to Makkah in Saudi Arabia is undoubtedly the largest annually recurring mass confluence of people in the world. Peaking in a four-day period in several Holy Sites in and near the city of Makkah, the Hajj presents unique and extraordinary challenges in terms of large scale special event management logistics. This book will attempt to provide a relatively brief holistic overview of the Hajj and some of its problems. The basic aim is to focus on the specific problems of mobility which have been the subject of considerable research. Following a greater elaboration of this issue, an innovative approach to the solutions of such problems using management logistical techniques will be discussed. This copy was inscribed to Father Carney Gavin, believed to be at one time the chief curator of Harvard's Semitic Museum (now disestablished). Condition: Very good / Very good.
