Edward Bernard Glick received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida and spent the bulk of his career at Temple University where his last title was Professor Emeritus of Political Science. Early in his career he specialized in civil-military relations, the politics of national defense and Latin American affairs. Later he also addressed Middle East issues. He was fluent in Hebrew and Yiddish and visited Israel frequently. He was a Research Assistant to Israel's United Nations Delegation and was Director of the Commission on International Affairs at the American-Jewish Congress. The author sought to explore the impact of military realities on the Israeli life style, the value system, the educational and cultural goals, the economic priorities, the immigration policies, the internal politics, and the who psychological and sociological milieu which characterize an Israel under constant stress and continuing crises. From this impact, there arise question of how so-called 'Israeli militarism' is perceived both at home and abroad, and what effect these perceptions have on Israel's relationship with young and liberal Jews everywhere, as well as on her relationship with the present and future goals of Zionist self-realization.
