The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) [Formerly the American Defense Preparedness Association] is an association for the United States government and the defense industry. Based in Arlington, Virginia, NDIA was established in 1919 as a result of the inability of the defense industry to scale up the war effort during World War I. It connects government officials, military and industry professionals, and organizations that represent the branches of the armed forces, homeland security, and first responders. The NDIA publishes a magazine, the National Defense, and holds over 80 symposia a year. Articles in this issue address Strategic and Space Systems, Energy Contingency Planning, Defense Contracts, Applying Computer Modeling to Verification, and Mobilization.
The article on Applying Computer Modeling to Verification (pages 38-40 illustrated) by Minao Kamegai addressed the Peaceful Nuclear Explosive (PNE) program. The article addressed in part the question of "Is on-site inspection sufficient to verify treaty compliance?" The author was a member of the Technical Information Department of the University of California, Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. Among the topics addressed include detonation, seismic motion, rock fracture, venting, yield determination, and depth determination. Includes references.
