Cover has some wear and soiling, and sticker. Alexey Ivanovich Sorokin born 1922 is a retired Soviet Admiral of the Fleet and former member of the Council of Peoples Deputies. Sorokin joined the Red Army in 1941 and served as a mortar operator. He was promoted to lieutenant, commanding a mortar battery and fought during the liberation of Belarusian and with the Baltic Front. After the war, Sorokin studied at the Lenin Military-Political Academy between 1948 and 1952. After graduating Sorokin was posted to the Navy. In 1959 he became base political officer at Sovetskaya Gavan. Sorokin became chief political officer of the Northern Fleet in 1974 and was promoted to vice admiral in 1975. He became chief political officer of the Soviet Navy in 1980 and deputy chief political officer of the Soviet armed forces in 1981. He was promoted to Admiral of the Fleet in 1988 and retired in 1992. This book is about the Soviet Armed Forces--the world's first army of the working people. Forged and tempered in the flames of the Civil War against the whiteguards and foreign interventionists, and having upheld the independence of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War, they traversed a great and glorious road of victory and becomes a reliable bulwark of socialist achievements. This book deals with the historic necessity for creating the army of a new type, tells about the Soviet experience of building its armed forces, their consolidation and development. Much of the material is about the varied ties between the working people and their army, and the unity of the people and their armed forces as the key source of their military prowess and high state of combat readiness.
