NOTE TO EDITORS AND CORRESPONDENTS; November 18, 1971

Washington DC: United States Atomic Energy Commission, 1971. Presumed First Edition, First printing thus. Ephemera. Format is approximately 8 inches by 10.5 inches. Single Sheet, with major text on one side. The other side was intended to be folded into thirds, taped, and mailed. The side with the major text has ink notations/comments. There is a scuff on the lower half, not involving any text. Some soling also noted. Some top edge wear noted. This is a press release. The top portion has a graphic of the AEC in the upper left, the atomic symbol in the middle, and the text "United States Atomic Energy Commission Washington, D.C. 20545" in the upper right. This press release stated that "China set off a nuclear explosion in the atmosphere at approximately 1:00 a.m., EST today in the vicinity of Lop Nor. The yield was about 20 kilotons." A press point of contact is given and it was noted that this information had already been 'dictated to the wire services'. This event was designated as Chic-12, and to date is deemed the only known Chinese cratering test. It is reported to have been detonated at 41.5°N 88.5°E and at a height of 807 m (2,648 ft) + (based upon information found on Wikipedia). This item is suitable for framing and could be part of a museum or collection display. Condition: Good.
