The United States Department of Energy (DOE) is a cabinet-level department of the United States Government concerned with the United States' policies regarding energy and safety in handling nuclear material. Its responsibilities include the nation's nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for the United States Navy, energy conservation, energy-related research, radioactive waste disposal, and domestic energy production. It also directs research in genomics; the Human Genome Project originated in a DOE initiative. DOE sponsors more research in the physical sciences than any other U.S. federal agency, the majority of which is conducted through its system of National Laboratories. The agency is administered by the United States Secretary of Energy, and its headquarters are located in Southwest Washington, D.C., on Independence Avenue in the James V. Forrestal Building. The Energy Department celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary. It was founded during the Carter Administration. The event featured a speech by the current Secretary of Energy, as well as speeches by several former Secretaries. This program was for the event commemorating this anniversary. Several former Secretaries of Energy joined Secretary Abraham at the event. C-SPAN covered the event and a video could, at the time this item was catalogued, be viewed on-line. In addition to being a commemorative program, it is also a useful reference document, listing the Secretaries of Energy and the Deputy Secretaries and Under Secretaries who held office during the Department's first quarter century. There is also an informative chart of The Institutional Origins of the Department of Energy. This also includes a chronology, with one page per year. Condition: Very good.
