Mary, Queen of Scots (8 December 1542 – 8 February 1587), also known as Mary Stuart[3] or Mary I of Scotland, reigned over Scotland from 14 December 1542 to 24 July 1567. Mary, the only surviving legitimate child of King James V of Scotland, was six days old when her father died and she acceded to the throne. She spent most of her childhood in France while Scotland was ruled by regents, and in 1558, she married the Dauphin of France, Francis. Mary was queen consort of France from his accession in 1559 until his death in December 1560. Widowed, Mary returned to Scotland, arriving in Leith on 19 August 1561. Four years later, she married her half-cousin, Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, and in June 1566 they had a son, James. The Deppa family legend is explored along with homes, foods, customs of the people of 1500s Scotland. " 'Our family name started when a lady-in-waiting to the queen married a stable boy'. Fifty years of curiosity and persistent research finally yielded the 428-year-old facts that verify this word-of-mouth legend." The author asserts that 'now after twelve years of searching I have found records that verify our legend. the Accounts of the Lore High Treasurer of Scotland, the Regality Records of Melrose and other old records reveal who the people were that our oral history "remembered". The stable-boy hired into the service of Queen Mary in Dieppe, France, at the time of her triumphal return to Scotland in 1561. There are about 20 derivations of the stable-boy's name which was initially recorded as "Depo". The lady-in-waiting was one of 15 Scottish girls in Queen Mary's train. Condition: Very good.
