It has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888, nine months after the Society itself was founded. It primarily contains articles about geography, history, and world culture. The magazine is known for its extensive use of dramatic photographs. The magazine is published monthly, and additional map supplements are also included with subscriptions. On occasion, special editions of the magazine are issued. The first issue of National Geographic Magazine was published on September 22, 1888, nine months after the Society was founded. Starting with its January 1905 publication of several full-page pictures of Tibet in 1900–1901, the magazine changed from being a text-oriented publication to featuring extensive pictorial content. Included in this issue are: A Special State Map of Florida; Florida--The Fountain of Youth with 71 Illustrations by John Oliver La Gorce; High Lights in the Sunshine State with 41 Natural-Color Photographs; New Light on Ancient Ur with 44 Illustrations by M. E. L. Mallowan. John Oliver La Gorce (1880-1959) was an American writer and explorer known for his work in the National Geographic Society. He served as Vice President of the Society from 1922 to 1954, and President from 1954 to 1957. Sir Max Edgar Lucien Mallowan, CBE (6 May 1904 – 19 August 1978) was a prominent British archaeologist, specializing in ancient Middle Eastern history. He was the second husband of Dame Agatha Christie. Condition: Good.
