National Geographic is the official magazine of the National Geographic Society. It has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888, nine months after the Society itself was founded. It primarily contains articles about geography, history, and world culture. The magazine is known for its extensive use of dramatic photographs. The magazine is published monthly, and additional map supplements are also included with subscriptions. On occasion, special editions of the magazine are issued. The first issue of National Geographic Magazine was published on September 22, 1888, nine months after the Society was founded. Starting with its January 1905 publication of several full-page pictures of Tibet in 1900–1901, the magazine changed from being a text-oriented publication to featuring extensive pictorial content. Included in this issue are: Ireland: The Rock Whence I Was Hewn with 69 Illustrations by Donn Byrne; The Hills and Dales of Erin and Vermont with 18 Natural Color Photographs by Clifton Adams; The Green Mountain State with 41 Illustrations by Herbert Corey; and Nicaragua, Largest of Central American Republics with 15 Illustrations. Donn Byrne (born Brian Oswald Patrick Donn-Byrne) (20 November 1889 – 18 June 1928) was an Irish novelist. Remarkable photographs were taken by Clifton R. Adams in the 1920s. Adams captured the idyllic nature of Ireland and rural life while on assignment with National Geographic, he was sent to Ireland in 1927 to photograph the way people lived. Condition: Good.
