Sixteen Illustrations in full color. Cover has some wear and soiling. National Geographic is the official magazine of the National Geographic Society. It has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888, nine months after the Society itself was founded. It primarily contains articles about geography, history, and world culture. The magazine is known for its extensive use of dramatic photographs. The magazine is published monthly, and additional map supplements are also included with subscriptions. On occasion, special editions of the magazine are issued. The first issue of National Geographic Magazine was published on September 22, 1888, nine months after the Society was founded. Starting with its January 1905 publication of several full-page pictures of Tibet in 1900–1901, the magazine changed from being a text-oriented publication to featuring extensive pictorial content. Included in this issue are: The Achievement of the "America": Commander Byrd, The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 with 54 Illustrations by Frederick Simpich; Living Jewels of the Sea with 16 Illustrations by William Crowder; The Black Hills, Once Hunting Grounds of the Red Men with 18 illustrations; The Friendly Crows in Festive Panoply with 13 Natural Color Photographs, by Edwin L. Wisherd; Who Treads Our Trails with 19 illustrations by Frank M. Chapman; and Our Transatlantic Flight with 18 Illustrations by Commander Richard E. Byrd, U.S.N. Frederick Simpich (1878 – 1950) was known for his work in diplomacy, journalism, and as Assistant Editor of the National Geographic Society. Condition: Good.
