It has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888, nine months after the Society itself was founded. It primarily contains articles about geography, history, and world culture. The magazine is known for its extensive use of dramatic photographs. The magazine is published monthly, and additional map supplements are also included with subscriptions. On occasion, special editions of the magazine are issued. The first issue of National Geographic Magazine was published on September 22, 1888, nine months after the Society was founded. Starting with its January 1905 publication of several full-page pictures of Tibet in 1900–1901, the magazine changed from being a text-oriented publication to featuring extensive pictorial content. Included in this issue are: Buenos Aires to Washington by Horse with 76 illustrations by A. F. Tschiffely; Twin Stars of Chile with 35 illustrations by William Joseph Showalter; Scenes of Beauty in Copper Land with 25 Natural-Color Photographs by Jacob Gayer; Cruising to Crete with 16 illustrations by Marthe Oulie and Mariel Jean-Brunhes; and Where Ancient Sea Kings Held Sway with 14 Natural-Color Photographs by Maynard Owen Williams. Tschiffely's Ride recounts his solo journey on horseback from Argentina to New York City, one of the greatest horse rides of all time. Aimé Félix Tschiffely (May 7, 1895 – January 5, 1954) was a Swiss-born, Argentine professor, writer, and adventurer. Condition: Good.
