It has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888, nine months after the Society itself was founded. It primarily contains articles about geography, history, and world culture. The magazine is known for its extensive use of dramatic photographs. The magazine is published monthly, and additional map supplements are also included with subscriptions. On occasion, special editions of the magazine are issued. The first issue of National Geographic Magazine was published on September 22, 1888, nine months after the Society was founded. Starting with its January 1905 publication of several full-page pictures of Tibet in 1900–1901, the magazine changed from being a text-oriented publication to featuring extensive pictorial content. Included in this issue are: Down the Lanes with 46 Illustrations by Herbert Corey; Highlights of London Town with 15 Natural-Color Photographs; Lakeland, Home of England's Nature Poets with 15 Natural-Color Photographs by Clifton Adams; From Stratford to the North Sea with 16 Natural-Color Photographs; Through the English Lake District Afoot and Awheel with 20 Illustrations by Ralph A. Graves; A Tour in the English Fenland with 27 Illustrations by Christopher Marlowe; and The Eagle in Action with 20 Illustrations by Francis H. Herrick. Herrick was the first researcher to study the bald eagle in the field, and help popularize wildlife photography in the process. Condition: Good.
