Milton Klein earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the City College of New York. In World War II he served with the United States Army Air Forces from 1942 to 1946. After the war, Klein remained a member of the Air Force Reserve, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1977. Klein earned his Ph.D. in 1954. He served as lecturer at Colombia between and moved to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1969. He was named Alumni Distinguished Service Professor in 1977, and the first Lindsay Young Professor of History in 1980. After retirement from the faculty in 1985, Klein became university historian in 1988. The University of Tennessee holds an annual lecture series named for Klein. The previously bibliography of New York in the American Revolution had appeared 48 years previously during the sesquicentennial celebration of the Revolution. It was short, only eighteen pages long and contained only a few more than two hundred entries. More was known at the time of this bibliography than had been known and understood nearly a half-century earlier. It was felt it was time to bring the bibliography up to date in an annotated manner. This bibliography is not exhaustive, but reflects a genuine effort to provide a comprehensive cross section of the literature ranging from scholarly and technical to popular. A brief bibliography of fiction has been added. The 1,089 entries are numbered consecutively throughout the book. Index references are to these entry numbers, not to page numbers. Authors, editors, translators, compilers, and key title words are indexed. Condition: Good.
