He is known for writing and illustrating more than 60 books under the name Dr. Seuss. His work includes many of the most popular children's books of all time. He began his career as an illustrator and cartoonist for Vanity Fair, Life, and other publications. He worked as an illustrator for advertising campaigns, and as a cartoonist for the New York newspaper PM. He published his first children's book And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street in 1937. During WWII, he illustrated cartoons, and he worked in the animation department of the Army where he wrote, produced or animated many productions including Design for Death, which won the 1947 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Then Geisel returned to children's books, writing classics like If I Ran the Zoo (1950), Horton Hears a Who! (1955), The Cat in the Hat (1957), How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1957), Green Eggs and Ham (1960), One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (1960), and Oh, the Places You'll Go (1990). His books have spawned 11 television specials, five feature films, a Broadway musical, and four television series. Geisel won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1958 for Horton Hatches the Egg and again in 1961 for And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street. His birthday has been adopted as the annual date for National Read Across America Day. The Cat's Quizzer is a children's book written and illustrated by Theodor Geisel under the pen name Dr. Seuss and published by Random House on August 12, 1976. In March 2021, the book was withdrawn from publication by Dr. Seuss Enterprises. In the beginning of the book, the Cat in the Hat introduces the reader to Ziggy and Zizzy Zozzfozzel, saying that they both got 100%, but got every answer wrong, and then asks the reader the recurring question "are you smarter than a Zozzfozzel"? The questions in the book range from simple queries to questions difficult enough to wear the Cat out. Are you smarter than Ziggy and Zizzy Zozzfozzel? Get quizzed by the Cat in the Hat in this classic Beginner Book by Dr. Seuss! Do fish sleep with one eye open? What do they call one-eyed eyeglasses? Are snails faster than turtles? How many will you get right? (The Zozzfozzels got them ALL wrong!) Featuring a mixture of picture puzzles, logic tricks, and silly questions, The Cat's Quizzer will keep readers fascinated with a wide array of facts and fun! Originally created by Dr. Seuss, Beginner Books encourage children to read all by themselves, with simple words and illustrations that give clues to their meaning. On March 2, 2021, Dr. Seuss Enterprises withdrew The Cat's Quizzer and five other books from publication due to the inclusion of imagery they deem "hurtful and wrong". The apparent reason for the book's withdrawal from publication is an illustration (on page 11) of a yellow figure in a coolie hat with the caption, "How old do you have to be to be a Japanese?" Removing the books caused a surge in sales for other works by Seuss that impacted Amazon's charts in the United States. It was reported by CTV that nine of the top ten best sellers were all books by Seuss, excluding the books that were removed. As the collectors value of the withdrawn books rose substantially, eBay also delisted the books. Condition: Very good.
