Rabbi Maurice Seymour Cohen died on Sunday, February 5, 2012, at the age of ninety- two. Rabbi Emeritus of the Shaare Zion Congregation, Rabbi Cohen was a scholar and Revered Rabbi of his congregation for over 50 years. A native Bostonian, he graduated from Harvard University, and The Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. He was one of the leaders of Conservative Judaism in Montreal, and one of the founders of the Solomon Schechter Academy. He supported the participation of women in the rabbinate, and was a member of the Interfaith Ecumenical Council for many years. He received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the JTS, and authored several books of sermonics. The publication of this book was motivated by the fiftieth anniversary observance of the author's synagogue, the Shaare Zion Congregation in Montreal. The volume is comprised, in the main, of a selection of columns with the author penned for the Congregational Bulletin down through the years. It includes, as well, a number of messages written for The Montreal Star, and an article which appeared in the Canadian Jewish Reverence Book Directory on the occasion of Canadian Jewry's bicentennial celebration. The author affixed dates to the individual pieces so that the reader may be mindful of the times and issues which prompted them. Condition: Good / Good.
