The format is approximately 8.25 inches by 10.75 inches. [10], 100, [2] pages. Decorative front and back covers. Ding to bottom corner of back cover. Illustrations. Bibliography. Map of Historic Places. Index. Research and Marginalia by Jean B. Anderson. This was published for the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources. This publication was made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This is one of The Way We Lived series. This series of books, The Way We Lived, is based on the premised that the past can be most fully comprehended through the combined impact of two experiences: reading history and visiting historic places. The text of this volume (the third in a series of five) is therefore coordinated with a variety of historical sites. Most places pictured as well as those mentioned in the margins are open to the public regularly or by appointment. Our objective in specifying sites has not been to compile a complete or comprehensive catalogue of historic places in the state, rather it has been to guide the reader to a representative selection of sites that exemplify the major themes of the text. We hope that this volume will serve as a stimulation to further reading and exploration. Condition: Good.
