DJ is quite worn, soiled, chipped, and torn and is in a protective plastic sleeve. Joseph C. Goulden (born 1934) is an American writer and former political reporter. Also writes as Henry S. A. Becket. Goulden was a member of the U.S. Army, where he was trained in counter-intelligence. Later he entered journalism, working for The Dallas Morning News. At The Philadelphia Inquirer, he worked first as an investigative reporter and later as head of the Washington bureau. He became a freelance writer in 1968 and wrote for a number of publications, including Harper's, The Nation, The Washingtonian, and The Washington Times. The Gulf of Tonkin incident was an international confrontation that led to the United States engaging more directly in the Vietnam War. It involved both a proven confrontation on August 2, 1964, carried out by North Vietnamese forces in response to covert operations in the coastal region of the gulf, and a second, claimed confrontation on August 4, 1964, between ships of North Vietnam and the United States in the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. Originally American claims blamed North Vietnam for both attacks. Later investigation revealed that the second attack never happened; the American claim is that it was based mostly on erroneously interpreted communications intercepts. The outcome was the passage of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which granted U.S. President Johnson the authority to assist any Southeast Asian country whose government was considered to be jeopardized by "communist aggression" More
