Cohen "is one of the few teachers in the American academy to treat military history as a serious field", according to international law scholar Ruth Wedgwood. In 1990, Cohen began teaching at SAIS. After the 1991 Persian Gulf War, he directed the U.S. Air Force's official four-volume survey, the Gulf War Air Power Survey, until 1993, for which he received the Air Force's Exemplary Civilian Service Award. This analysis of the effect of U.S. air power was widely referenced in discussions of the Revolution in Military Affairs concept.[citation needed] In 1993, Paul Wolfowitz, who would later become prominent as the Deputy Secretary of Defense in the run-up to the Iraq War, became Dean of SAIS. Crawford served with the Marines during the Korean War as a forward observer in a 4.2 mortar company. But fire-missions interested him less than the doings of fellow enlisted men, who seemed to devote much time and effort to hoodwinking officers, making midnight requisitions from U.S. Army depots and generally behaving like "characters." In combat, the author got banged around a good bit, but couldn't manage to earn an official Purple Heart wound. The story of his attempts to achieve this goal is virtually the only unifying theme in this collection of wartime anecdotes and tall tales. Marines of all ages will enjoy Crawford's yarns. Others may wonder how so many devilishly clever, cynical, foul-mouthed and courageous young men could possibly end up in one outfit. Crawford spent 21 years in the Corps, serving in all ranks from private to master sergeant. More

This is the story of an ordeal sustained by the flesh and blood of United Nations soldiers, American Soldiers, Republic of Korea soldiers, and the innocent and defenseless refugees. , Edward Lee Daily was 17 when he met an Army recruiting sergeant with "medals plastered all over his chest," Mr. Daily wrote in a short memoir. Mr. Daily picked the cavalry. Mr. Daily wrote about becoming an expert marksman with the Seventh Cavalry Regiment. Military records show, Mr. Daily joined the Seventh Cavalry in 1951. Mr. Daily began focusing on Korea after a 1986 reunion of cavalry veterans. "If you guys will get me stories, I'll put them together and we'll put them in a book," Mr. Daily told attendees, Mr. Down said. At this and other reunions, the best stories emerged in the bar, and Mr. Daily had a knack for injecting himself into the conversation, veterans said. Mr. Daily was, without question, a linchpin in efforts to preserve and honor the memory of the Seventh Cavalry and served as its president in the early 1990's. In 1993, he attended a ceremony in South Dakota with members of the Lakota Sioux tribe to help make amends for the 1890 massacre at Wounded Knee by the Cavalry. More
