Inscribed by the author on the half-title. Thomas Loren Friedman (born July 20, 1953) is an American journalist, author, and three time Pulitzer Prize winner. Friedman currently writes a weekly column for The New York Times. He has written extensively on foreign affairs, global trade, the Middle East, globalization, and environmental issues. The author has won two Pulitzers and a National Book Award and is a long-time journalist on foreign affairs with vast experience and knowledge of global economics. In June 1984, Friedman was transferred to Jerusalem, where he served as the New York Times Jerusalem Bureau Chief until February 1988. That year he received a second Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting, which cited his coverage of the First Palestinian Intifada. He wrote a book, From Beirut to Jerusalem, describing his experiences in the Middle East, which won the 1989 U.S. National Book Award for Nonfiction. Following the election of Bill Clinton in 1992, Friedman became the White House correspondent for the New York Times. In 1994, he began to write more about foreign policy and economics, and moved to the op-ed page of The New York Times the following year as a foreign affairs columnist. In 2002, Friedman won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for his "clarity of vision, based on extensive reporting, in commenting on the worldwide impact of the terrorist threat." More

Grace Halsell (May 7, 1923 – August 16, 2000) was an American journalist and writer. The daughter of writer Harry H. Halsell, she studied at Texas Tech from 1939 to 1942, at Columbia University from 1943 to 1944, at Texas Christian University from 1945 to 1951, and at the Sorbonne (Paris) from 1957 to 1958. Halsell worked for several newspapers between 1942 and 1965, including the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and the Washington bureau of the Houston Post. She covered both the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a reporter, and was a White House speech writer for President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1965 to 1968. She wrote ten books, including the critically acclaimed Soul Sister and Journey to Jerusalem. More

Sari Nusseibeh (born in 1949) is a Palestinian Professor of Philosophy and former President of the Al-Quds University in Jerusalem. Until December 2002 he was the representative of the Palestinian National Authority in that city. In 2008, in an open online poll, Nusseibeh was voted the 24th most influential intellectual in the world on the list of Top 100 Public Intellectuals by Prospect Magazine (UK) and Foreign Policy (United States). Mark A. Heller is Principal Research Associate at the Institute for National Security Studies (formerly the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies), Tel Aviv University and editor of its quarterly journal, Strategic Assessment. He received his B.A. in Political Science and Economics at the University of Toronto and did his graduate studies at Harvard University, where he earned an M.A. in Middle Eastern Studies and a Ph.D. in Political Science. He has been affiliated with the INSS/Jaffee Center since 1979 and has taught international relations at Tel-Aviv University and at several American universities.
