An important objective of the NSTC is the establishment of clear national goals for Federal science and technology investments in areas ranging from information technologies and health research, to improving transportation systems and strengthening fundamental research. The Council prepares research and development strategies that are coordinated across Federal agencies to form investment packages aimed at accomplishing multiple national goals. This report was developed by the Interagency Task Force on Advanced Networking, a 40-member ad hoc group established pursuant to a charge from the Director of OSTP. The charge called for a strategic vision and plan to guide the Federal government’s portfolio of advanced networking research and development investments. The report is published by the National Coordination Office (NCO) for the Federal Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) Program.
