Telephone Directory
Washington DC: National Geographic Society, 1969. Presumed First Edition/First Printing thus. Wraps. Unpaginated (24 pages plus cover). Cover illustration is a mezzotint conversion of a photograph by staff photographer James E. Russell. Inside the back cover is a diagram of the 17th Street building with room number information. Name of previous owner inside front and back covers. This was Mrs. L. Fern Dame's copy. She was with the Illustrations Library. The content is mostly numbers for individuals but also includes areas and functions, such as archives and Explorers Hall. It is highly unusual for an ephemeral document such as this to survive a few years, let alone nearly half a century. An analysis of the contents can reveal the size of the staff, size of certain functional groups (such as photographic staff), and the overall organization and functional areas (such as card catalogue) of the National Geographic Society.
